Who isn’t familiar with mosquitoes AND their irritating, itchy, painful bite. But these blood suckers – the female mosquitoes are the assailants, because they need the blood to help produce eggs -- do more than just bite. They can transmit dangerous diseases to both humans and our pets.
Mosquitoes can spread a host of diseases to all the above, including West Nile, dengue, and Zika viruses, as well as encephalitis. Dogs, cats, and horses can also get heartworms from a bite, while we humans can add malaria and yellow fever to the list.
