Mosquitoes Carry Diseases?

Mosquitoes & Their Deadly Diseases – Be Informed!

It’s summertime in the South, and mosquitoes are just a part of life. We’ve all been bitten, and had to endure the annoying itching for days. Most of us think of them as pesky insects, but over the years mosquitoes have become one of the most dangerous insects in the world. They transmit deadly diseases and it’s important to become educated so you can protect your family, including your pets!

West Nile Virus This is the most talked about mosquito-transmitted disease. Mosquitoes become infected when they bite infected birds, then passing it along to humans and animals. It usually takes between 2-14 days for symptoms to start, but most people who are bitten by an infected mosquito do not develop any symptoms. Around 1 in 5 people develop flu-like symptoms and less than 1% develop neurologic illness. Blood tests can be done to determine if you have the virus.

Heartworms Most people don’t realize that heartworms caused in animals are from mosquitoes! If an animal is not taking the correct medicine to prevent heartworms, once bitten by an infected mosquito they can easily contract the disease. In most cases, they can be treated for heartworms but it’s often very expensive.

How Waynes Can Help Since mosquitoes are a flying insect, it’s very hard to kill them once they’re in the adult stage of their life. Waynes offers a Mosquito Management treatment that helps prevent them from reaching adulthood. We inspect and treat the surrounding shrubbery and trees on your property and treat them with a pesticide. This pesticide kills the mosquito’s eggs before they hatch.
